Tough Times for Gareth Bale at Real Madrid but He Needs to Keep Working Hard

It is past the halfway stage of the Liga season and it is an interesting situation, as Gareth Bale has played only 51 percent of the minutes of games for Real Madrid in La Liga and Champions League. The Spanish press are starting to count the minutes that he is missing.

It has been a tough time for Bale. There have been five situations where he has not been able to play. In two or three cases, having been called into the team, Bale has pulled out after speaking with coach Carlo Ancelotti and the doctors. It happened in the cup game with Atletico Madrid this week, after which it was explained that they wanted to hold him back for the league game as Ronaldo is missing for the next three league games on account of suspension.

If that was the case, why call him up in the first place? He actually travelled to the stadium.

Everyone within the club was asked about it and they said it was all planned, but the fact is Bale did not feel 100 percent and they wanted to give him more time to recover.

It has happened before and Bale wants to feel 100 percent ready to play. You cannot blame him as there is a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. Also that is how he feels his body should be: 100 percent.

He is so explosive in his play that if he has a worry or does not feel he can push to the limit then his performance will be inhibited.

Bale Shines with Ronaldo Missing Against Villarreal

When Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off against Athletic Bilbao last weekend, it seemed like poor timing. There's never a right time to be dismissed, either within the match or the subsequent suspension.

Although, if there are adequate replacements or the next few matches are a little easier, then it cannot be all that disastrous.

Ronaldo left the field with Gareth Bale missing through injury and with the visit of a team—that had won four out of their last five matches—on the horizon. Villarreal had already held Real Madrid in the reverse fixture, when Bale surprisingly made his competitive debut.

The Welshman has had to deal with a number of minor setbacks since arriving in the capital, but it never seems to alter his form. It's been a disrupted campaign for Bale, and seven is his longest run of consecutive league games.

"Bale has played well when he was fit," said manager Carlo Ancelotti to ESPN's Dermot Corrigan earlier this week. "He has had some problems, for sure he will be much better next year. First, after having a normal preseason, and also with more knowledge of Spanish football culture."

Ancelotti is right, Bale has been impressive. He now needs to play every week and maintain his fitness. Alongside Ronaldo he has been decent, but without the Portuguese forward it's his time to shine.

Building the Perfect Winger from Attributes of Robben, Ronaldo, Bale and Co

To create the perfect winger we will combine certain elements of the best exponents of the lateral arts in world football at present, with stars such as Arjen Robben, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo included.

Ronaldo is, in fact, not far from the perfect winger himself, so we can take him as our starting point and add a few upgrades to make an even more formidable wide midfielder.

The ultimate wing player should have pace, stamina, an ability to cross accurately and consistently, fine dribbling skills and a knack for scoring goals.

Sounds simple, doesn't it?

There are not many wingers around, though, who possess all of those attributes.

By the time he's put together, our creation, who we will name "Nick Bradshaw," should prove to be the supreme wing man.

Gareth Bale: Damaged Goods or Slow Start for Real Madrid Star?

Gareth Bale hasn't been what Real Madrid expected when they spent a record amount to bring him over from Tottenham. Instead, the injury worries that in part led to Tottenham letting him go have risen up to make his first campaign in La Liga a mixed bag so far.

Still, with a stunning game last weekend against Villarreal, Bale is showing why he was so highly regarded.

His "redebuts," as termed by the Spanish sports paper Marca (h/t The Telegraph's Ian Hawkey), are events, but the need for them in spite of world-class sports science and sports medicine worries Real Madrid fans as much as Bale's left foot worries goalkeepers.

That Real Madrid are fighting with archrival Barcelona and crosstown nemesis Atletico Madrid despite the loss of one of their top players speaks to their depth and to the incredible season that Cristiano Ronaldo is having.

There was also an opportunity cost to buying Bale and his injuries rather than someone else, such as Luis Suarez or one of the young stars Carlo Ancelotti covets.

The question now is twofold: Will Bale be on the pitch much more than his stop-and-start play this season, and will these injuries keep him from ever meeting the expectations set by his transfer price?

It's too early to lump Bale's time in Madrid alongside Kaka or David Beckham, but those discussions have started.

Roberto Carlos: Bale worthy of world-record fee

Roberto Carlos has voiced his support for Real Madrid's decision to break the world transfer record to sign Gareth Bale.

Los Blancos' decision to pay Tottenham Hotspur €100 million to secure the services of the Wales international back in August provoked huge debate, with Barcelona boss Gerardo Martino arguing that the money involved showed "a lack of respect for the world we live".

However, Carlos, who played at Madrid during the 'Galactico' era, does not believe that morality comes into it, claiming that the game's top players have always commanded extravagant fees.

"They have paid that because he deserves it," the former Brazil international told AS.

"They also paid a lot for (Zinedine) Zidane, (Luis) Figo, Ronaldo, Cristiano (Ronaldo). Barcelona also paid much for Neymar. They are worth it.

"That is why I don't understand Tata Martino's critique of the signing of Bale alluding to the economic situation. You have to pay for this type of player."

Bale's arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu has prompted comparisons with the star-studded Madrid squad that lifted the Champions League in 2002.

However, Carlos, a key component in that particular side, feels that the current team is nowhere near as strong.

"Do not compare," the legendary full-back declared. "This Madrid is great, but to be equal or better they have to achieve what we did."

Still, Carlos does believe that Carlo Ancelotti's men are capable of claiming a 10th European Cup this season - in spite of their underwhelming domestic form.

"In the league are not going well," the 40-year-old conceded. "But many times we had that and we won the Champions League."

Carlos spent 11 seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu, joining from Inter in 1996 before leaving for Fenerbahce in 2007.

Gareth Bale could make Madrid debut at left-back as Real hit by injuries

Gareth Bale is set to make his debut for Real Madrid tonight and I’ve been impressed with the way he has settled in at the Bernabeu.

He has been respectful to all his new team-mates, especially Cristiano Ronaldo. I have heard a lot of people, including ex-players, saying that his biggest task will be dealing with the politics of the dressing room there.

From my own experience, when I joined a club that had just won the European Cup in 1977, I had no problem whatsoever at Liverpool.

We had some big stars and some big characters, too, but one of the things that made the club so special was that their goal was to keep on winning.

I know there have been problems at Madrid and I don’t know if that situation is still brewing.

But I know enough about Bale to realise that if there are any problems in the Bernabeu dressing room, they won’t be down to him.

Forget the critics, England are just where they want to be
Before England played Ukraine last Tuesday, I could have sworn the consensus was that a draw would be a good result.

So what if some people say they didn’t play well. If they didn’t play well and they drew away in Ukraine, that speaks volumes for their organisation and their desire to move forward in the group. Would you rather England had played well and lost and were not going to make it to the World Cup?

If you’re a fan, you put the result before the performance and you wait for next time to play well.

England are where they want to be – top of the group with their last two games at home. They are not past the post yet but they are close.

Roy Hodgson was correct when he said everyone is entitled to their opinion but it’s his opinion that matters most.

After all, it’s his opinion and his actions that have put England on the verge of qualifying.

David Moyes refuses to deny Manchester United made a late bid for Gareth Bale

David Moyes refused to deny reports that Manchester United had made a sensational £125million bid for Gareth Bale before the ex-Tottenham ace completed his world record move to Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants completed the protracted £86.3million transfer the day before the transfer window closed, but reports have surfaced that Manchester United made a late effort to sign the PFA Player of the Year.

"I wouldn't confirm anything, the window has now closed," the United boss said after seeing his side beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at Old Trafford.

"I have said many times we are always bidding for the best players."

French newspaper L'Equipe reported that Manchester United were the 'second party' that entered the race for the 24-year-old and tabled a £125million bid which was refused by Daniel Levy.

The report in the French sports daily  said: "According to our sources, the identity of the club who attempted to sign the 24-year-old midfielder is none other than Manchester United, who made an offer close to €150million."

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti yesterday confirmed that another club were in the race for Bale, saying: "I know that Tottenham had a higher bid than Real Madrid for Gareth Bale, but he wanted to play here and that’s what made the difference."

David Moyes missed out on several deadline day targets, as United were unable to conclude deals for Ander Herrera, Fabio Coentrao and Leighton Baines, with Marouane Fellaini being Moyes' only acquisition this summer.

Gareth Bale goes house-hunting after Real Madrid move.. at Arsenal new-boy Ozil's place

Gareth Bale is moving in on Mesut Ozil’s place at Real Madrid - by buying his £1million house.

Bale and his partner Emma are understood to have looked to Ozil’s upmarket property in the Spanish capital’s La Moraleja district.

Arsenal’s record £42m signing Ozil has put his property on the market with estate agents who have offered it for rent or permanent sale.

It is in an area known as Madrid’s Beverley Hills and is where Real superstar Cristiano Ronaldo lives and where David Beckham used to have a house.

Bale has been tipped to buy a property there and Ozil’s plush pad makes perfect sense, with the German star now looking to buy a place in North London.

It is believed that Bale’s lawyers are trying to negotiate a deal - but there could yet be a hitch.

Emma, who has a young baby Alba, wants a final say on the style and decoration of any house the family move into.

Champions League roundup: Gareth Bale off the bench to assist in Real's romp as Bayern ease to win

Gareth Bale made an immediate impact on his return to the Champions League as Real Madrid hit Galatasary for six.

The Spanish giants were already 3-0 up before the Welshman appeared from the bench after 64 minutes.

But within two minutes, the world's most expensive footballer had whipped in a free-kick which led to Cristiano Ronaldo scoring his second goal of the night.

Bale also fed the former Manchester United star to set up Karim Benzema for 5-0 and was involved in the move that ended with Ronaldo celebrating his new mega-contract by completing a second-half hat-trick.

'Welcome to Hell?' The world's two most expensive players were in heaven and Ronaldo playfully congratulated £86million Bale in the mixed zone after the match.

Galatasaray's talisman Didier Drogba went off at the end of the first half with a shoulder injury and did not re-appear after the break.

Bale, who last appeared in this competition on April 13 2011 at White Hart Lane against Real Madrid," said: "It was great to be back in the Champions League - it has been two or three years now. It is great to get out on the pitch and get some game time.

"It was good to make an immediate contribution with the free-kick - I think I was involved in all the last three goals, which was delightful.

"It is never easy coming on as a late sub. It was just great to get on the pitch - to make my Champions League debut for Real Madrid was a big thing for me."

Bale, who played 62 minutes on his debut at Villareal on Saturday, added: "It was just great to get back on the pitch and get some game time under my belt and get my fitness up."

Even without Bale, this Group B fixture still started with six former Premier League stars - Drogba, Emmanuel Eboue and Albert Riera against Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Alvaro Arbeloa - on the pitch... and with Mark Clattenburg as the ref.

The Turkish champions dominated the opening exchanges but the fanatical fans in the Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi were silenced by Isco's 33rd-minute opener.

After Burak Yilmaz - one of only three Turk starters in the Galatasaray side - missed a free header six yards out after 48 minutes, Real then scored three goals in 12 minutes.

Gareth Bale faces waiting game to see if he will be fit for Madrid derby

Gareth Bale has received a scan on his injured thigh and faces a anxious wait to see if he is fit to make his home debut for Real Madrid in next weekend's derby clash against Atletico Madrid.

The world's most expensive player was due to make his Bernabeu bow last night against Getafe , but felt a tweak in his left thigh during the warm up and was left out of the side as a precaution.

Bale underwent tests on Monday morning at the Sanitas hospital in La Moraleja which revealed the damage to be "muscle fatigue".

The statement on Real Madrid's website read: "After the tests carried out today on Gareth Bale at the Sanitas La Moraleja hospital, fatigue in the left thigh muscle was found. It will be treated."

It is not known when the €100million signing from Tottenham will be available to make his third Madrid appearance but reports in Spain suggest he will miss Wednesday's trip to Elche but could be fit to face Atletico on Saturday.

Ancelotti felt that could be the case following Madrid's 4-1 win over Getafe.

"It is difficult to recover in three days, I am sure he will be ready for the game on Saturday," said the Italian.

"Today he had a small problem and we hope it is resolved quickly."

He added in the post-match press conference: "He is very upset at the moment because he was desperate to play his first game at the Bernabeu.

"I don't think it is a big problem, we have to wait until tomorrow to do a scan to see how bad the injury is.

"He wasn't comfortable, he was worried and so it was better to avoid problems."

The 24-year-old Bale only played 45 minutes in pre-season with Tottenham prior to his record-breaking move to Madrid, plus half an hour for Wales in a World Cup qualifier against Serbia.

He then played 60 minutes on his Madrid debut against Villarreal last week, where he scored his side's opening goal in a 2-2 draw, and also featured as a second-half substitute in the midweek Champions League win at Galatasaray.

Tottenham old boy Caulker fancies their title chances after facing them with Cardiff

Steven Caulker insists Tottenham can be a more dangerous team without Gareth Bale.

And former Spurs defender Caulker is tipping his old club to contest for the title after their £100million plus spending spree.

Caulker was part of Andre Villas-Boas' squad who came fifth last season as Bale smashed in 21 League goals.

It earned the Wales winger a whopping world-record £86m switch to Real Madrid.

But Caulker, 21, believes the White Hart Lane club have re-invested the money very wisely after playing for Cardiff in their 1-0 home loss against his former club on Sunday.

Match-winner Paulinho was among the new stars who sparkled, along with Christian Eriksen and Roberto Soldado.

Erik Lamela and Lewis Holtby also impressed off the bench to finally find a way past Cardiff's resistance by teeing up Paulinho.

It left stopper Caulker very impressed at Spurs' array of talent, which now makes them anything but a one-man side.

Asked if the Londoners could challenge for the title, Caulker replied: "Yeah, with the players they have brought in and the squad they have got, they should be achieving things.

"They have spent a lot of money and when teams spend that amount of money you expect big things from them.

"It's slightly different there now. Without Bale they did not have that threat - but they have other players who came in and looked strong. I thought their movement upfront was great.

"With the money they have spent they have got great players with a lot of movement. They have got Soldado and Eriksen running off and you have got to be focused.

"When you bring on a £27m-plus player in the last minute, like Lamela, it is going to be difficult. With the money they have spent they will all cause teams problems."

England international Caulker, signed for £8m in July, had a stormer against his old club along with keeper David Marshall.

Spurs created 29 attempts on goal, of which 12 were on target only to find Marshall in magnificent form.

Second-placed Tottenham - behind arch-rivals Arsenal on goal difference - must now focus on Tuesday's Capital One Cup trip to Aston Villa.

It is their second game in three days, ahead of hosting Chelsea in Saturday's lunchtime kickoff.

Villas-Boas has pledged to make numerous changes for the Villa game, as he is unhappy with his side's hectic schedule: "We have an impossible game to play. The ideal situation would have been to play Wednesday.

"I don't think we were given a fair chance, like the others, to play this competition this year. It is impossible for our players that were involved on Sunday to play that game.

"I am not sure I want to risk the players who played here with a hamstring injury that may take them six weeks to recover.

"The Premier League is more important. This team is not experienced to play after two days.

"We will have to rotate the squad but we still have some great strength in depth."

Real Madrid admit Manchester United bid forced them to sign Gareth Bale this summer

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has claimed the Spanish giants scrapped their plan to wait a year for Gareth Bale because Manchester United had bid for him.

Mirror Sport revealed in July that the Premier League champions were moving in for the former Spurs winger.

Bale, 24, finally confirmed his move to the Bernabeu for £86million a day before the transfer deadline.

United boss David Moyes has remained coy on whether the club had indeed made an offer for the Welsh winger, who scored on his debut for Real against Villareal earlier this month.

But Perez said: “Tottenham did not want to sell and we respected that.

"Then, when we found out that Manchester United would be making an offer, we made our own.

“Since his childhood he had the dream of playing for Real Madrid and he asked us to make it possible for him to come."

Perez also claimed that, despite his world record transfer fee, Bale represented a bargain.

He added: “Bale was cheap.

“The signing of Gareth Bale is the model of Real Madrid, signing the best player in the world at this moment, and that is what I say.

“All the great players of Real Madrid have been cheap. I will not say the amount, but we must not focus too much on the purchase price."

Manchester United made £100m Gareth Bale bid to try to stop transfer to Real

Manchester United made a sensational world-record £100million bid to hijack Gareth Bale’s move from Spurs to Real Madrid.

Mirror Sport can reveal Welsh flier Bale even flew back from Spain to hold talks with United officials, who were desperate to help new boss David Moyes make a blue-chip signing.

On Tuesday, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez publicly confirmed that another club came in for Bale during their negotiations in August.

And, as we revealed in July, United had already made a £60m offer for the player.

Perez, who eventually paid a world-record £86m for Bale, said: “Tottenham did not want to sell and we respected that.

“Then, when we found out that Manchester United would be making an offer, we made our own.
