Manchester United made £100m Gareth Bale bid to try to stop transfer to Real

Manchester United made a sensational world-record £100million bid to hijack Gareth Bale’s move from Spurs to Real Madrid.

Mirror Sport can reveal Welsh flier Bale even flew back from Spain to hold talks with United officials, who were desperate to help new boss David Moyes make a blue-chip signing.

On Tuesday, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez publicly confirmed that another club came in for Bale during their negotiations in August.

And, as we revealed in July, United had already made a £60m offer for the player.

Perez, who eventually paid a world-record £86m for Bale, said: “Tottenham did not want to sell and we respected that.

“Then, when we found out that Manchester United would be making an offer, we made our own.

“Since his childhood he had the dream of playing for Real Madrid and he asked us to make it possible for him to come."
