bale 7-3: Goal-fest at the Bernabeu 2013

Real Madrid came up against Sevilla in their fourth of the seven matches in the 21 days between the last two international breaks of 2013. The Whites went out to dominate and to stifle their opponents’ attempts to play the ball out from the back. That is exactly what they did for the first half hour. Isco came close to opening the scoring in the 4th minute. The move, in which the Whites strung together more than ten passes, deserved a goal, but his shot went a few inches wide. The first goal of the match came nine minutes later. The counter was started by Isco, before Benzema passed to Bale who coolly finished into the top corner. The Welshman opened his tally in the Bernabeu but could have had two more, both with Benzema providing the final pass, in the 17th and 21st minutes. His second goal came from his next chance. His free-kick hit Alberto Moreno in the wall and sent Beto the wrong way.

Real Madrid were enjoying themselves out on the field and also delighting the crowd. A great performance by Real Madrid in front of their home fans. They had scored two goals in less than half an hour and could have had several more, but they were still not satisfied with that and scored their third in the 32nd minute. Isco was taken down by Fernando Navarro and Cristiano Ronaldo converted the penalty. One non-existent penalty led on to another. Figueiras fell after a coming together with Ramos in the area in the 38th minute and Rakitic reduced the deficit from the spot. Sevilla’s fight-back did not end there and two minutes later Bacca scored from an attack started on the left wing by Vitolo before he played the ball to Jairo to get the assist. Five goals in an exciting first half and everything to play for in the second half.

The first half ended frantically and the start of the second half was not far behind. In fact, in the same minute, there could have been an equaliser just before an amazing goal from Benzema, who was given an ovation by the Bernabeu. Diego Lopez denied Jairo in a one-on-one in the 53rd minute before the Real Madrid goalkeeper launched the counterattack that culminated in the French forward’s great finish, showing his tremendous quality. Bale got the assist to return the favour to the Frenchman for the opening goal. Seven minutes later, the Welshman made a spectacular run up the right wing and made another assist for Ronaldo to score their team’s fifth of the night.

It was a crazy match. There was barely time to blink. There had been seven goals and there was still half an hour to go. Sevilla did not give up and reduced the gap with a great goal from Rakitic in the 63rd minute. 5-3 and Xabi Alonso came on the pitch. The player from Tolosa was making his debut this season and his fans gave him an ovation, but there were still more surprises and emotions to come. Eight minutes later the home team’s sixth goal came following a great solo run from Ronaldo who scored his third on the night. In the 73rd minute there was another non-existent penalty awarded to Sevilla, which was missed by Rakitic. The home team responded immediately and seven minutes later Benzema, with a header, scored his team’s seventh to complete the scoring in another epic match. The fans at the Bernabeu enjoyed the show put on by their team.
